Why This Illustrator Never Erases Her "Mistakes"

In this year's 29Rooms art show in Brooklyn, we debuted our first"Artist in Residence" exhibit where we brought in 6 artists to practice in the space, in hopes of encouraging patrons to create art of their own. In this video, see how R29 illustrator Hannah Minn lead visitors to draw a model in her exhibit "Embrace Your Mistakes."

22-year-old Hannah Minn knew she was an illustrator when she realized she'd rather remember an image by drawing it than writing it down or taking a picture. And in the

The Mini Mascara This Model Can't Leave The House Without

Phone, wallet, keys, and lipstick: The mantra of many a millennial woman. Beyond those four basics, however, every woman has a few necessities that might seem just plain weird. In Spill It , we ask influential women to share everything that's in their bag — embarrassing, enlightening, and otherwise. If model Kyra Santoro's bag was ever lost backstage, it wouldn't take long to figure out who it belonged to. The e

I Love Cabins — & This $395-$550 Nashville B&B Is Country Chic

“Sometimes you need a geographic cure when you’re at home and you’re stuck,” says Lindsey Bro of Instagram’s @cabinlove. “So putting yourself in the way of experiences is sometimes exactly what you need to create a shift or whatever it is to get you going again. That’s the whole point of travel: to get an experience that makes you better.”

I travel all over the world and see as many places as possible. Everything is an influence, whether good or bad, and over time you take in the experiences an

Detroit—A City Of Female Entrepreneurial Spirit

Following the city's 2013 bankruptcy, many women in Detroit chose entrepreneurship as a path forward to grow with the revitalization of their city. The proof is in the numbers: According to Sharon Buttry of the Hamtramck Community Initiative, around 62 to 64% of small businesses in the Detroit area are headed by women.

In the third and last episode of Connecting Thread, a series from Unleashed featuring female artisans around the world, we’re invited to a dinner table where we meet women turnin

How These Female Breadwinners Defy Tradition — & Break Stereotypes

Some American workers dream of working from home — creating our own hours, providing for ourselves, while having the flexibility to take care of our families.

Now, imagine this life in India, but with no electricity, no running water, and barely any access to education. That’s what life is like for the beading breadwinners of Bareilly, highly talented artisans commissioned by designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, AllSaints, and Ralph Lauren. These are the protagonists of the latest documentary fil

How To Explain Rape Culture — To The Devil

Is it tough to talk about sexual violence with men in this day and age? Rachel Bloom has a civil conversation with the Devil and his advocate about rape culture, a term designed to show the ways that sexual violence is normalized and trivialized in our society. "It's not just insane men who commit sex crimes. It's all sorts of people. It's friends. It's co-workers. It's otherwise upstanding citizens," Bloom's character says in the sketch. Rape culture affects people of all genders. Let's sit at

Gillian Jacobs Explains That Crazy, Creepy Ending In "Curated"

Gillian Jacobs might be known best for embodying complicated, polarizing characters, from the overall-wearing Mickey in Netflix's Love to the self-righteous Britta in Community. But truly, it might be the Jacobs behind her Shatterbox film Curated that truly freaks us out.

The premise: Nancy, the protagonist, and her husband take a trip to pick up a few items at her late grandmother's estate, where they meet a curator who gives them a rather long — and unsettling — tour of the house.

The tour g

How Crochet Became More Than A Craft

Kehiana London aged out of the foster care system at 21, and she was on her own in New York City. In her chaotic world, she found a calm sense of community through Foster Pride, a non-profit organization helping youth in foster care develop talents and build self-esteem through the arts for 25 years. London's art of choice? Crochet — a craft she learned, honed, and has turned into a business. "It makes me feel empowered," London says. "I love anything art."

'A gentleman and a scholar': UCF History Department remembers beloved professor

Dr. Simon Barton was shy to ask for a stapler, but he always welcomed students into his office after class.

Friends and colleagues recalled him as a joyous man and only the third professor to land a full-time position with tenure in the UCF History Department.

He always wanted to please everybody, UCF history administration services coordinator Sira Ambrosecchia said. It was funny, because the history staff always wanted to please him.

“You always take a chance when you hire a new faculty mem
